Dear Friend,

Maybe you’ve heard of our legendary history and want to get involved perhaps even teach Wolfe’s Combatives?

Well, it seems after 25-plus years — I’ve got a lot of people thinking about us and for some it seems they think we sprung up overnight! There’s no secret to our landing on the martial art or fitness scene and I will let you know several ways you can join in on the triumphant return of Wolfe’s Combatives and I want to let you know about several possible ways that you can participate in our growth.

 

First, Wolfe’s Combatives is world renowned and has grown steadily as one of the industry leaders! I decided to re-embark on a growth plan in 2011/2012 for the first time, since I started more than 15 years ago, allowing owner-operated associated Wolfe’s Combatives — these studios are not franchises but wholly owner/operator studios carrying on an historical lineage and a reputation for being one of the very few systems offering simple no nonsense self defence and fitness training in a fun, non threatening environment. All our Wolfe’s Combatives studios regardless of size are backed up by extensive support and training by myself and our very supportive alumni and we have grown dramatically around the world. If studio operations and ownership may be an option you’re interested in then read on about that opportunity. Let me explain further about these studios and how they’ve evolved.

 

The typical profile of a new studio owner involves an individual who is tired or bored with their career and decides that being a self defence/fitness educator with Wolfe’s Combatives sure beats whatever they have been doing. Many owners come from diverse backgrounds such as taxi drivers, the corporate world, personal trainers, police enforcement and ex military who just can’t sit behind a desk.  And then there is the long time martial art school owner who wants to offer more and increase their student base — just to give a few examples.

 

After checking us out and participating in our training they ask the big question and want to change their lives – they decide with proper training running a Wolfe’s Combatives studio sure is more interesting, and, possibly more financially rewarding than other career opportunities. Once the passion is lit they learn about the requirements, then “jump in,” starting with my intensive “14-day Elite Instructor Course” this is really the only external cost as we have no franchise fees.  Training programs of this caliber are really an investment in oneself and also in learning the Wolfe’s Combatives method, the Wolfe’s Combatives studio operations and administration. Following graduation from my training program, I’ll help them setup a studio. This is an adventure where you need to combine entrepreneurship with a solid teaching career.

Does that sound interesting to you?

 

Let me explain further about these studios and how they’ve evolved. Frankly, I don’t know if this is something for you or not. What I do know is that there are many locations that would love to have a Wolfe’s Combatives studio teaching my programs. We also have many martial arts schools around the world that have joined our alumnus!

 

 

What does all of this mean for you?

For one thing, I’ve organized an intensive training program for new studio operators starting with the Elite Instructor Course, yearly re-certification and instructor alumnus camps. Individuals or businesses interested in exploring this as a career move should check it out and contact us for more details about our Wolfe’s Combatives Studio operators program. Next, if you think this might be for you, start your exploration now. There is no limited number of locations — and frankly, I think the more Wolfe’s Combatives Studio’s there are the better for everyone. Many of the existing studio owners worried about several potential obstacles before joining our team.

Do you share their concerns?

 

First, they really didn’t know much about the marketing, sales, administration or even teaching organization of a Wolfe’s Combatives Studio. Wolfe’s Combatives as I teach it is one of the top systems in world because we have mastered each of those functions. My training program and support materials cover every aspect of studio operations very effectively and thoroughly.

Second, many prospective studio owners are not even martial arts students. Again, with my “Elite Instructor’s Course,” we solve that knowledge gap. Additionally, in many cases we have highly skilled Wolfe’s Combatives instructors as potential staff for new studios. All owners are required to take the instructor course as an owner-operator but you do not have to have a martial art teachers background. We will assist with training you for every aspect of studio operations.

 

Third, they worry about replacing their existing income, and if the opportunity to do so adequately exists in running a school. Although each person’s financial results are greatly dependent upon a variety of factors, I can assure you that the potential exists to match just about any other opportunity.

 

Fourth, they worry about start-up capital and the cost of opening a new business. Certainly that is an issue, although there are many ways to accomplish adequate funding. Also, relative to opening any new business, a Wolfe’s Combatives Studio — including all of our training and development — is considerably less expensive than just about any other substantial business. We can certainly walk you through every cost and give you some thoughts on how to finance your start-up if necessary. For example my initial start up cost for my current studio in 2011 was $20,000; costs of course vary depending upon a variety of factors. Most of our existing operators financed this investment through second mortgages, friends and family investments, savings and bank loans or lines of credit. I hope that you will consider exploring this opportunity more thoroughly if you are ready to plunge into an exciting new career that combines community impact and an incredible amount of fun.

 

Fifth, they worry about the size of their studio. Certainly size is important because you cannot teach in a phone booth. Again my current studio is small just under 3000sqft while one of our largest alumni studios is over 6000sqft. Of course these are full time studios but others in our group have part-time studios operating out of community centers, gyms and even share facilities with martial arts schools. For me when I weigh the difference it comes down to operating costs vs. profit margin. I make a very good take home after expenses plus I have less headaches and that is important to me. Also I get to be more hands on which I love. Many of our part-timers have built their studios up to a full-time model very smartly and created the initial capital via their keen students.

 

Sixth, they ask why do I do it this way and not offer franchises or an association/federation type organization to promote the system. Well I don’t believe today they would represent a proper way forward for me or this system. I’ am not getting any younger nor is the system and it is through proper qualified younger blood who will take ownership of the ‘teaching methods’ and continue its growth. I am the last representative of my generation who learned WWII Combatives at the hands of those vets and maintaining that lineage is important. The alumnus I’ve created will do just that with professionalism and with integrity. That is why I do it this way!
